I have fond memories of seeing the original trilogy when it was in the silver box of three VHS tapes. Later the special edition came out and it had the fancy gold box. Some changes were good, but others were goofy and unnecessary(and when they were released on DVD, there were more). The most controversial was changing a few frames so that Han Solo would shoot after Greedo in A New Hope.
It’s been discussed to death, so I won’t say much about it, but the scene was fine in it’s original form. Having Han shoot first makes sense, not just character-wise, but for practicality too. The reason for changing it was so that Han would shoot “in self defense”, but he already was in the first place! He was at gunpoint the whole time, so why wait for the other guy to attack? That concept applies more or less to real life too, although there’s often more after the fact than strolling away and saying “Sorry about the mess.” If someone threatens you, by all means try and talk them out of it or weigh options of fighting vs. giving in or trying to get away. But if you do end up having to fight, don’t feel obligated to give them more of a chance to do harm. Anyway, here’s hoping the new movie or trilogy is good and doesn’t suffer from too much CGitis. I’ll be happy if it’s better than the prequels and most revisits of franchises.
