Been without internet for about a week

during the shitstorm after a wannabe terrorist loser murdered a bunch of people, I haven’t been able to join the discussion yet and am way behind on reading posts.  @cyrodiil-burns, @therevenantrising, and numerous others, keep up the good work.

The victims in Orlando shouldn’t have been massacred AND  the proposed gun control laws aren’t going to prevent any future attacks.  The nightclub was full of helpless people, and making everyone else as just as helpless won’t stop another massacre from happening.  Instead, expanding gun laws will only enable more spree killers and terrorists to have more opportunities to slaughter.  One mere follower managed to murder and injure so many in one place, and a coordinated group like in Paris(where machine guns were smuggled in despite strict laws), has the potential to be even worse.  What’s really terrifying isn’t so much the type of guns used, it’s  the realization that an attack could happen so suddenly and that no place is completely safe.

What about a proposal that doesn’t restrict rights and punish everyone for the evil act of someone else?  Normally I’d say that more people concealed carrying in general would be part of the solution, but a nightclub makes that tricky.  Armed security(and workers if they’re not drinking) could help, but not all nightclub owners want to go through the hassle of employing them.  A simple and more manageable option would be to have undercover armed security similar to air marshals.  They would mingle among patrons or sit off to the side, always ready and not consuming any booze while working.  The response time would be quicker than the police(3 hours in this case) and more consistent than hoping someone with a CCW randomly passes by the area when the attack occurs.  There is no perfect magic answer, but unlike adding more laws, this option would actually reduce gun violence, and that’s what so many people are clamoring for, isn’t it?  To feel safer?

To anyone who believes that the U.S. is too dangerous and needs to restrict freedom(not just weapons, things like free speech and due process too) like other countries: I guarantee moving to another country would be less expensive and far less trouble than trying to make people give up their rights here.

Storytime and rant, muh background checks edition

Several years ago I worked in commiefornia for a couple months.  One day at break time we were talking about guns and I mentioned bringing one or several of mine from out of state but not wanting to risk losing them to antifunners.  One of my coworkers says “I got a .30-06 bolt action I want to sell, you interested?”  I think it was a Marlin, almost brand new with a scope.  I didn’t have a .30-06 in my collection and it’s a common caliber, so I say sure, I’ll think about it.  Then he says, “Ok, I’ll go to the gun store and get the paperwork.  They’ll hold it for the waiting period too.”

“Hahaha good one, not even California is that shitty.” I say, thinking he’s joking.  But no, private transfers have to go through someone with a FFL(federal firearm license) in CA.  In free states, if someone wants to buy/sell/trade a gun with someone else, they can(and don’t give me any of that loophole shit, it’s illegal to sell to someone who’s not allowed to own a gun.  Straw purchases are felonies).  Background checks are optional in a private transfer as they should be.  Criminals buy and sell to each other on the black market and it’s not consistently enforceable.  Why can’t law-abiding people have a similar convenience?  Private transfers can also give the option of buying or selling a different selection than what’s at the average gun store, possibly for a better deal.  If the other person is too sketchy, don’t buy from or sell to them.

And the fucking waiting periods, ugh.  I knew CA had them but it was a shock to hear they’re required for private transfers.  Back in the free world(just less of a police state) buying a gun at the store consists of seeing the item, filling out the form, waiting while the background check is called, then paying and leaving with the new purchase right then and there.  A private transfer can be even quicker, especially if the buyer and seller know each other.  I wait while saving up money to buy guns, why should I wait again for something that’s paid for?  Because some hotheaded pieces of shit shoot their battered spouses(who would be waiting to get a gun to defend themselves under the same law)?  Keep in mind the battered spouse is less likely to survive with a blade, blunt object, or hands & feet against someone stronger.  But with a gun and some know-how, the same small, physically weaker person has a chance to stop the vicious attacks that restraining orders can’t and cops won’t get to in time.  And if someone is enraged or jealous to the point of attacking someone habitually, how would waiting an arbitrary number of days deter them?  For those without spouse/ex issues, what if there’s a major natural disaster or a riot?  Looters are on the loose, but sorry, there’s still x amount of days left on the waiting period before you can get what you already bought.

I never got that rifle, but picked up an older Remington bolt action also with scope at a pawn shop in the state of my residency.  It was brought to the range to test fire a box of ammo, which it did fine except the scope came loose and fell off.  Forgot to bring any loctite, so the last rounds were just eyeballed with the rails.  Later it was packed in a case with another rifle or shotgun or few the next time I went to CA(grandfathering them in before the fucking long gun registry was in effect, heh heh heh).

Anyway, all this relates to the hype about Obama’s plans for an executive action and the ongoing “debate” over gun control vs. gun rights.  Background checks are already required for buying a gun in any gun store or from someone with an FFL.  Pawn shops selling guns, like the one above, are also required to do this, as are big wallyworld type stores with guns in the sporting goods dept.  But every day some dipshit is on the news saying, “We need background checks, it’s too easy to get a gun.  Assault clips are scary and fast.  Common sense for the childrens!  You don’t need shoulder ghost things, etc.” without having any idea or just ignoring the fact that background checks are required and have been since 1998.  Online sales of guns require background checks too unless its something like silkroad(which happens to be illegal).  Not only that, but a gun bought online has to be shipped to FFL(or if it’s over 50 years old it might be eligible to be sent to someone with a C&R license), because guns haven’t been allowed to just be shipped anywhere since 1968 (gun control act after JFK was killed).

Idiots who watch and believe the dipshits on the news ask, “But what about background checks for private transfers?  I don’t know the difference between the black market and a gun show just like I don’t know a hunter from a poacher, they’re all totally the same, right?  It’s no fair that there isn’t a middleman.  Why not make everyone have to get a FFL because muh permit?”  Making it illegal to buy and sell without having a FFL won’t stop criminals, but it will create a nice chunk of revenue for the government to waste on more legislation.  In order to sell that you have to pay for this license first, or you can turn it in for destruction.  Keep paying to renew the license every year or else there will be more fees.

“Nobody is coming for your guns,” the antifunners say with a tear in their eye, because that’s farther down the line.  “All we’re asking for is a few more commonsense compromises.  Don’t you want to eliminate gun violence and make our communities safer?  The britbongs and ausfailians have the right idea, can’t we be like them?  Just a few more regulations, the last ones didn’t fuck everyone over enough.  You can still keep your guns, only you can’t.”  More and more until the hassle becomes so great that citizens start to give up.  Once that happens crime rates will go up and the government will try to control it by banning more things.

People have rolled over compromising the 2nd amendment, so what would stop politicians from going after the rest?  Start out by limiting rights and enforcing fees, then take them away completely.  Free speech is already on its way out.  “Hey, you have a nice house and we’re short on housing for the expanding the police army.  Mind if some chill at your place indefinitely?  If you disagree we’ll just take it by force.(3rd)”  Searches and seizures without a warrant happen regularly(4th).  Don’t even get me started on the justice system, or the “guilty until proven innocent and pay out the ass if you don’t have the right connections” system.  Government agents will be given power zealously enforce whatever they feel like at the time in order to fill quotas.  Best case scenario life will be miserable everywhere due to living in fear of criminals(now with more terrorism) and the authorities(who are increasingly criminals that get to commit crimes which are made legal), worst case cities and towns will eventually become ripe for good old fashioned genocide.  Source: world history

California is a major source of antigun evil in addition to overregulating virtually anything and everything, due to the grotesque vampires running the state and the general idiot populace.  In order to get a rifle there, I brought one from hundreds of miles away just to avoid the hassle of more paperwork and fees(and the time from buying it and entering the state was less than a waiting period).  If I were to do the same thing today, the rifle would be a scary unregistered imported weapon and I would be risking whatever penalties the lawmakers make up.  If I were to move there(perish the thought!) and bring the guns in my collection that aren’t scary high capacity assault weapons, within 60 days I would be required to register and pay fees for each one.  Fuck that.  The proposed laws will attempt to make the entire U.S. like CA and NY except even worse.

Didn’t think this image could get more relevant but it did.

Protip: Once guns laws get to the point of treating every gun like an NFA item, people might as well build unregistered fully auto silenced ghost gun stens with underbarrel sawed off shotguns attached.
